The course lasts 2 weeks, structured as:

Week 1: Contemporary China;

Week 2: China in the world.

Location

Tongji University, Shanghai and also: Suzhou, Yinxing, Hangzhou and Dongyang.

General information

Tongji University will receive up to 70 (seventy) UPC students in the summer course it organizes from June 23rd to July 6th. During these 2 weeks, participants will also learn Chinese and Chinese culture.

The course programme includes classes and several visits, allowing participants to get closer to Chinese culture and history and learn about them.

During the summer school, there will be classes of Chinese language, classes on "China and the World" and various cultural experience workshops such as: Chinese calligraphy, tiedye, Tai Chi, etc.
There will also be different visits, such as: Bund, Xintiandi, Pujiang excursions, Yu Garden, etc.

Eligibility

  • People over 18 years old
  • With Spanish nationality or from another country, except Chinese nationality.
  • Be a student of a bachelor's or master's degree at the UPC and be up to date with the payment of thetuition fee of the academic year 2024-2025.
    Therefore, PhD students, students of a UPC non official or postgraduate degree, alumni and "incoming" students who are undergoing a mobility stay at the UPC are excluded.
  • Preferably students in the last years of their bachelor's or master's degree.
  • With accredited knowledge of English at level B2 or higher.

Before March 30th, 2025.

How to submit your application

Before the indicated deadline, send an e-mail to the address:  int.calls-management (at) upc.edu

with the title: "Tongji summer course"

with the following information:

  • name and surname
  • DNI or NIE number
  • passport number
  • UPC school or faculty where you study
  • name of the degree that you are studying in UPC

and attach the following documents to your message:

  • Certificate of English language proficiency; if you don't have one, you can take a test at the European Union web
  • Photocopy of the personal data page of your passport;
  • Passport-sized photo (file size less than 1MB);
  • Brief motivation letter in English;
  • "Application form", duly completed and signed only by the student at the bottom of the page. Only if you are selected to participate in the Tongji summer school, the UPC International Relations Office will process the document and it will be signed by the UPC, in due course.
  • "Guarantee letter", duly completed and signed by someone who would be responsible for your support if necessary (for example, mother, father, other relative, etc.).

Application prioritization process

The selection process will be carried out by the UPC International Relations Bureau. In the event of a very high number of applications, they will be prioritized by academic record (student's average grade / average grade of the alumni of the degree of the student) and based on a distribution by fields of study.

The selection result will be published on the Office's website before April 11, 2025.

Applicants will be informed of the result by e-mail.

Selected candidates will later receive information about the next steps in the process and for the preparation of their trip.
