Opening a bank account in Spain

To open an account in Spain you must have a NIE number (a Foreigners Identification Number; see the part of legal procedures).

lf you urgently need to open a bank account although you do not yet have a NIE, the best thing to do is to go to any of the banks near the campus, because they are used to dealing with international students who have just arrived.

You will need to provide your NIE one or two months after opening the account. lf you do not, the bank may close your account.
