SALSA'M programme. Get a buddy, make a friend

It’s like having a friend who will help you get things started. Get to know the UPC, meet locals, practise languages, learn about our culture and open your mind! More than 6,000 people have already lived this experience.

What is SALSA'M?

SALSA'M is the UPC's buddy programme. We connect local students and incoming students who are studying at our university for one semester. We’ve been doing this since 2015.

Who will my buddy be?

Your buddy will be a local student from your school who will help you out with the basics and give you tips on getting around the city, how the school works, the way we live, places to go and everything else in between.

What will be expected of me?

A commitment to attend all the meetings with your buddy and the cultural activities. We’re looking for people who are motivated, curious and open to a real cultural exchange.

Is it free?

Yes, the programme is free, but it does require this commitment from you, so think twice before you sign up: if you register and don’t show up, other people who’d like to take part won’t get the chance to.

What type of activities are part of the programme?

During the first few days, your buddy will help you land and find your way around. Afterwards, over the course of the semester, there will be free cultural activities such as speed friending, outings and informal gatherings.

Will my buddy help me with the language?

Yes, your buddy will show you some easy sentences you can start using in Catalan to introduce yourself, greet someone or ask for basic information.

Free Catalan course

The programme includes a free Catalan course called Just Arrived (level A1) that will teach you the basics and give you the confidence to start interacting with locals (you’ll see how much they appreciate it!).

When will I hear from you?

Once you’ve registered you’ll receive an automatic e-mail. Matchings are done 15 days before the semester stars, so expect to hear from us in early September (first semester) or February (second semester).
