UPC digital Certificate

Description

A digital certificate, issued by a certification authority (trusted third party), is an online identification method that determines unequivocally the identity of users and their type of accreditation and allows identification before public administrations, as well as carrying out online procedures with full legal guarantee.

Unlike other identification methods such as a user code and password, a digital certificate, in addition to identification, allows you to sign electronic documents with legal validity.

T-CAT P

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is a T-CAT P digital certification entity, which means that it provides digital certification for its staff.

The T-CAT P is a recognised certificate that identifies, in addition to the person who holds it, the subscribing organisation. It is intended for public employees in the Catalan public sector.

This certification is an authentication tool that generates an advanced signature that is delivered in a software file, meaning that can be installed on different devices: computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, etc.

The UPC offers the digital certificate to teaching and research staff and technical, management and administrative and services staff, who in the fulfillment of their duties have to carry out electronic procedures or sign documents digitally.

To request that a public employee certificate be issued, the applicant must contact the Registration Service Office (OAMR) of the Organisational Development Service (SDO) through a Demana ticket.

In the ticket you will have to specify your personal and contact details.

  • The operator will contact the applicant of the certificate to verify, through a videoconference, that the personal data that appears in the digital identity site of the UPC is exactly the same as that which appears on the official document that identifies you and therefore that will appear on the certificate.
  • The operator will procedd to issue the certificate.
  • The operator will sent the delivery document to the certificate holder by e-mail so that they can print and sign it.
  • The certificate holder must return the signed document to the Registration Service Office (SDO). The UPC must keep this signed document for at least 15 years.
  • The certificate holder will receive an e-mail from the Open Administration Consortium of Catalonia (CAOC) with instructions on downloading and installing the certificate.
  • If the signed delivery document is not returned, the request for the certification will be void.

Renewal procedure

  • The Open Administration Consortium of Catalonia (CAOC) sends two e-mails to the certificate holder, notifying them of the expiration date. The first e-mail is sent 60 days before the expiration date and the second 30 days before it if the certificate has not been renewed.
  • In this e-mail, the certificate holder is told to contact the person responsible for the certification service (Registration Service Office) if they want to renew the certificate. The request must be through a Demana ticket.
  • The process to follow for the renewal of the certificate is the same as for issuing a new certificate:
    • The operator will contact the applicant of the certificate to verify, through a videoconference, that the personal data that appears in the digital identity site of the UPC is exactly the same as that which appears on the official document that identifies you and therefore that will appear on the certificate. If any of the information has changed, the new data is duly recorded.
    • The operator will proceed to issue the certificate.
    • The operator will sent the delivery document to the certificate holder, by the signature holder tool, so that they can sign it with their current certificate.
    • The certificate holder will receive an e-mail from the Open Administration Consortium of Catalonia (CAOC) with instructions on downloading and installing the certificate.
    • If the delivery document is not signed, the renewal request for the certification will be void.

Please note that you have 10 days to download the T-CAT P certificate file, after which the certificate will automatically expire. Bear in mind that you can only download it once.

Once you have downloaded the certificate, a .p12 or .pfx file is generated. It is important that you save this file in a safe place that you can access from other computers (we recommend Google Drive or a USB device) so that you can reinstall the certificate if needed.

Go to the AOC support site for further information on downloading and installing the certificate.

This file can be found in the Downloads folder of your computer or where you saved it (Google Drive, USB device, etc.). You will also need the “codi de gestió” that was sent by e-mail from the AOC with the instructions on how to download and install the certificate.

If you do not have the downloaded file, reinstallation is not possible. You will have to request the revocation of the certificate and submit a new request through a Demana ticket.
