The app 'SafeWalkNearby' shows the 1-km area from home within which outings with children under 14 are allowed and locates the user on an interactive map in real time. In addition, the app records the duration of outings, sends alerts and notifications when the maximum time or distance have been exceeded and tells you when you should start getting back home.

Unlike other similar apps, this one, which is free and available on Google Play, guarantees data privacy because it only runs on your personal mobile device and it is not connected to any server:

The spin-off Sparsity Technologies was founded in 2010 by the University’s Data Management Group (DAMA-UPC). It is a company created within the UPC to reply to complex queries using immense databases.
