The UPC has improved in terms of presence and impact

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) has moved up 32 positions on the Ranking Web of Universities and now ranks 280th in the world. At the European level, the UPC has moved up ten positions, and within the Spanish university system it has held onto its place as the country’s top technical university.

The Ranking Web of Universities, known as Webometrics, ranks over twelve thousand universities and higher education institutions based on a series of indicators linked mainly to the volume and quality of their websites. The ranking also takes into account scientific output of a high standard, such as the most cited Scopus publications and the most cited profiles on Google Scholar.

In the January edition of the ranking, the UPC moved up 32 positions to 280th place globally, which makes it one of the top 300 institutions at the international level.

The University also improved its ranking within Europe, climbing from 119th to 109th place, while at the national level it holds the same positions as in the previous edition: seventh in Spain, third in Catalonia, and first among Spanish technical universities.

New institutional website performing well
This edition of the ranking, produced by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), is the first published since the UPC’s institutional website was revamped four months ago and therefore serves as a barometer for assessing the evolution of the site. The positions achieved by the University in the first two indicators used by the ranking (which measure aspects linked to the website and together account for 55% of the overall score) show that the UPC has improved in terms of presence (up 161 places, from 194th to 33rd) and impact (up 31 places, from 388th to 357th).
