The UPC stands out in research and academic reputation in the Best Global Universities Rankings
The UPC is ranked among the world’s top 50 in Optics and among the top 100 in Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, according to the 2023-2024 Best Global Universities Rankings. It is also the leader among Spanish universities in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Optics, and Environmental Engineering.

The U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings focus on the academic research and reputation of higher education institutions. Published on 25 June, the 2024-2025 edition of the Rankings list 2,460 universities worldwide, with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) ranked in the overall list and in 22 field and subject lists, three more than in the previous edition.
In the overall ranking, the UPC is ranked 450th in the world, 174th in Europe and 9th in Spain. Additionally, it is ranked as one of the best 100 universities in Optics (48th) and in Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (63rd). The UPC is also ranked among the world’s top 200 in Civil Engineering (119th), Condensed Matter Physics (158th), Computer Science (161st), Physics (170th), Artificial Intelligence (170th), Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (176th), Engineering (186th), Green and Sustainable Science and Technology (196th) and Mechanical Engineering (200th).
It is also the leading Spanish university in the Engineering field and in five subject rankings: Civil Engineering, Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Optics, and Environmental Engineering.
Regarding ranking indicators, the UPC has achieved its best scores in regional research reputation—in the top 10 in some subjects—and in conferences and international collaboration—in the top 15.
