The UPC is the top Spanish university in Engineering according to the 2021 NTU Rankings
In the latest edition of the NTU Rankings, the UPC is the top Spanish university in Engineering in terms of research productivity, impact and excellence. The University is also the top Spanish university in four subjects: Mathematics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

The Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities is released by National Taiwan University (NTU) and is also known as NTU Rankings. This ranking assesses the productivity, impact and excellence of the scientific publications of institutions based on bibliometric indicators obtained from Clarivate Analytics databases. In addition to the overall classification, the NTU Rankings also publish 33 classifications by fields and subjects.
In the overall ranking of the 2021 edition, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) has climbed positions and is ranked 445th in the world and 118th in Europe. It is also the top technical university in Spain.
By field, the UPC stands out in Engineering, for which it is placed 146th in the world, 25th in Europe and 1st in Spain, a leadership that it has maintained since 2011. In the field of Natural Sciences, the UPC is ranked 258th in the world, 92nd in Europe and as the top Spanish technical university.
The UPC is in the world’s top 100 in three subjects
The UPC is classified in 12 subjects evaluated by the ranking, two more than in the previous edition: Mathematics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geosciences, Materials Science, Physics, Energy Science and Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Chemistry.
The University is ranked among the world’s 100 best universities and is the top Spanish university in three of them: Mathematics, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. It is also the Spanish leader in Electrical Engineering.
The UPC is also the top Spanish technical university in Computer Science, Geosciences, Materials Science, Physics, Energy Science and Engineering, and Environmental Science and Engineering.
