The UPC ranks higher in the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject. It is now ranked the world’s 21st in the subject Architecture (climbing 8 positions) and in the broad subject area Engineering and Technology it has climbed from 85th place in the 2019 edition to 76th place this year. The University is also ranked as one of the world’s top 25 universities in the subject Civil and Structural Engineering, remaining the world’s 23rd.

In the 2020 edition of the QS World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) is ranked among the world’s top 25 in Architecture, climbing 8 positions from last year to the world’s 21st, and in Civil Engineering, remaining the world’s 23rd. The University cements its position as Spain’s top university in these subjects, and it is 4th in Architecture and 3rd in Civil Engineering among European universities.
It also ranks higher in the broad subject area Engineering and Technology, in which it climbs 9 positions from last year’s 85th to the world’s 76th, and remains the leader in Spain. It is also listed among the world’s 100 best universities (51-100 band) in four additional subjects: Art and Design, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Information Systems and Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering. The UPC is also the top university in Spain in Computer Science and Information Systems and shares the first position in Art and Design (1-2), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (1-2), Mathematics (1-5) and Materials Science (1-6). It is ranked as one of the world’s 200 best universities (151-200 band) in the latter subject.
The UPC is placed in the 101-150 band in Environmental Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics and Operational Research. It is also listed in Chemical Engineering (151-200 band), in Agriculture and Forestry (251-300 band), in Business and Management Studies (251-300 band) and in Physics and Astronomy (rank 301-350). It sits as 2nd in Spain in the subject Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering, in the 2-3 band in Environmental Sciences and in the 2-4 band in Statistics and Operational Research. The University is also listed in the broad subject area Natural Sciences (287th), Arts and Humanities (359th) and Social Sciences (386th).
The 2020 QS World University Rankings by Subject, published by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, analyses four indicators related to research impact (research citations per paper and h-index) and the institution’s reputation among academics at other institutions and among employers.
