The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has named Antonio González, a professor from the Department of Computer Architecture of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) who also teaches at the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB), Fellow for his contributions to the design of robust and energy-efficient computer architectures. He is the only Spanish scientist to have received this recognition this year.

ACM brings together computing researchers and educators to advance computing as a science and profession. The Association rewards contributions in computing such as algorithms, networks, computer architecture, robotics, distributed systems, software development, wireless systems and web technology, among others.

Antonio González leads the Microarchitecture and Compilers (ARCO) research group, focusing on robust and energy-efficient architectures for general purpose computers, graphics processors and cognitive computing systems. He has received several awards, such as the UPC’s 2008 Duran Farell Technological Research Award and the ICREA Acadèmia award in 2014 and 2019. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and ACM.

In 2020, ACM has recognised researchers from universities and research centres in Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Germany, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The awards ceremony will take place in San Francisco, USA, on 12 June.
