The Times Higher Education’s Impact Rankings publish two types of lists: an overall list, which is calculated from the score in SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals) and the best three scores in the remaining SDGs, and a list for each individual SDG, which ranks the universities that have provided data in each goal.

The rankings calculate and weight nearly 350 indicators from over 2,000 institutions. Some of them are submitted by the participating universities, which must provide supporting evidence, and others are obtained by the publishers themselves, such as bibliometric variables from the Scopus database or several patent databases.

In the 2024 edition of the rankings, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) has provided data for the following SDGs: Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Climate Action (SDG 13), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

In this new edition, the UPC maintains its position among the world’s best universities for the SDG 13 Climate Action, in which it is ranked 58th with a score of 72.5 out of 100. The University is also ranked in the 101-200 band for the SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure with a score of 80.5 out of 100—its highest in the current edition—and for the SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities with its second-highest score of 74 points. The UPC is also the leader among Spanish technical universities for the SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities, SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

These three SDGs are the University’s top goals in this edition, and have therefore been used in combination with SDG 17 to calculate its position in the overall ranking, in which it is listed in the 401-600 band with 73 points.
