The Security Innovation Awards highlight the importance of EU-funded research in the field of civil security and reward great examples of security research. A general award and three thematic awards—Safety Innovation, Innovative Technology and Resilience—are presented.
The 2022 Resilience Award went to “EnhANcing emergencY management and response to extreme WeatHER and climate Events” (ANYWHERE), a European project that “strengthens societal resilience through its technology intended to enhance anticipation and capacity of response to extreme climate-induced events for civil protection throughout Europe.”
Coordinated by the Centre of Applied Research in Hydrometeorology (CRAHI) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya-BarcelonaTech (UPC) and led by researcher Daniel Sempere, ANYWHERE has implemented a pan-European multi-hazard early detection platform, which has been demonstrated in seven climatically diverse pilot sites in Europe, to anticipate extreme weather-induced events before they occur. The Horizon 2020-funded project has been developed by a consortium of 34 organisations from 11 European countries, with representatives of the scientific world (universities and research centres); forecasting technique developers; national, regional and local disaster management authorities (government); and companies in the sector (industry).
